Long Overdue

Life had gotten pretty crazy following the holidays last year. I began student teaching, finished graduate school and began looking for that elusive teaching job. I spent my summer teaching art again and working with the kids to do the sets and costumes for the theater production.
I had my feelings hurt by the universe when I did not get that elusive teaching job in September, but I am still hard at work trying to find one while substituting and working on my art and writing.
In July, Suite101.com underwent a huge overhaul and Topic Editors were created. I got bumped up to the editor slot for art books and was given classical art history too which is kind of neat, but slow and going because not many people have an interest in the arts never mind writing about them.
I’ve begun to query again both for art articles, so I can move away from the web and for my manuscript as well. I figured that there was no time like the present to just finally do something and see where it leads.
I’m going to try again for monthly updates here, but you can always read (and follow) aswewriteit.com for updates on me, my writing, my photography and of course, my teaching!
Happy Holidays!

I am not sure what happened to November, but I feel as though it was Halloween night and then I suddenly woke up to Thanksgiving! I have nothing all too new or exciting to report. I am busy freelancing and nursing a Maggie cat through her recently diagnosed breast cancer.
Hold your animals close this holiday season!
I am also finishing up my course work and am set to begin my student teaching in the spring. I am really excited and ready to be done with school for awhile.
Holy October??

September Breeze

I woke up this morning to the most wonderful breeze. It was just full of September, light-weight sweaters and leather boots – haha. I’m ready for it. I’m ready for my last set of classes and student teaching. I’m ready for the next phase.
The next phase will not be as crazy as this summer was with 12 credits and a full-time job, but it will be crazy in a whole new way…making the choice between a full-time masters program or part-time and working full-time in district. I will be done with my post-bac program at long last and will finally hold a full NJ teaching certificate.
We’ll see what comes!

It was beyond awesome! Last year, all I did was write about it for the exhibition I was involved with, but this year I was actually able to go. It really was a profound experience and one I will not soon forget. I will be uploading countless photographs and even a few videos over at As We Write It, be sure to check it out. I was even able to get a bit of the Kings of Leon set which was mind-blowing.
Happy Memorial Day!

For me, this weekend was not about war and soldiers nor was it about beer and grilling. No. My weekend was a return to sanity. I slept late, did menial things like laundry and until this morning ignored lesson plans and any sort of school work. Today I was able to complete everything I will need to teach my art class this summer and on top of that did everything I needed to do for school tomorrow AND even complete a presentation I have on Thursday. It’s amazing how productive I can be when I am not stressed.
And that’s what it is, right now I am not. I actually feel well-rested, I don’t feel tense or over-worked and for the first time this summer, I feel as though everything I have to do is completely manageable.
I’m zen. I’m sane. I’m good. I have an entire art curriculum and a speech on Spenser’s Faeire Queene under my belt. I’m still not turning on my cell phone until I leave for work tomorrow morning, though
.
Somehow I am halfway through my first round of summer classes and on the brink of a real break between this session ending and the next beginning. I am also slowly getting caught up with my column that has suffered from finals, teaching and the start of a new semester. It’s a good night.
So it goes…

It’s a crazy time of year and I will be very glad to see this semester conclude. I am behind in my writing because of school and that just sucks. I am hoping to be caught up by next week…fingers crossed.
I’m gearing up for several small trips and a fun summer of teaching art and studying British, Greek and Roman literature and Willy Shakespeare. I’m going to be a very busy lady, but in a year I will have my teaching certificate and if all goes according to plan, I will then pursue my final art degree before I am done with school….
…that is, knowing me, until I decide I want a PhD and then that’s going to be a whole new bag of crazy.
Happy Reading!
